During the ongoing Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2026, NORDECO with many partners organized a special session based on the intensifying challenges for land and resource management, caused by accelerated Arctic warming, rising resource demands, and a shifting security context. The session examined how to move towards more inclusive resource management for sustainable development. Participants discussed potential existing models for inclusive resource management, and they identified a large number of big and small actions each of us can take to enhance inclusive approaches. They also identified a number of practices in resource management that reproduce top-down, non-inclusive dynamics and that must be stopped or transformed.
Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2026 opened in Aarhus, Denmark (25 March–1 April), gathering over 1,200 researchers, Indigenous knowledge holders, policymakers and early-career scientists for a week of coordinated Arctic research and dialogue. Hosted by Aarhus University and the Forum for Arctic Research and organised by the International Arctic Science Committee, the hybrid programme spans community meetings and workshops (25–29 March), ASSW Science Day on “Arctic Observations” (29 March) and the Arctic Observing Summit (30 March–1 April).
