NORDECO is a key partner in the more4nature project, which has developed four new policy briefs with specific recommendations addressing pollinator protection, coastal plastic pollution, ecological status of surface water bodies, and deforestation linked to trade.
While these issues are currently high on the European environmental policy agenda, a persistent gap separates ambitious environmental legislation from practical implementation at global, European and national levels. Authorities face shrinking staff and limited monitoring capacity, making timely data collection, local insight gathering, pressure detection, rapid response, and compliance verification harder. Collaboration with citizens and communities is therefore essential: citizen science and citizen action provide new knowledge sources, extend monitoring reach, and enable more responsive, locally grounded oversight. The Horizon Europe–funded more4nature project produced four policy briefs with recommendations for European lawmakers and national agencies on pollinator conservation, coastal plastic pollution, surface water health, and deforestation-related trade, proposing legal changes to institutionalize citizen–authority collaboration and strengthen environmental protection.
